Does Your Job Give You the Sunday Night “Dreads”? Escape in 3 Easy Steps

Many workers have a Monday through Friday schedule with a two day weekend, usually  Saturday and Sunday.  Many others work four ten-hour shifts for a three day weekend. I have found in speaking to many clients no matter what the schedule, whether Tuesday through Saturday,  Wednesday through Sunday or any other variation, if you are in the wrong job or not fulfilled with this lifestyle than you are experiencing the “weekend is about to end dread.”


Having lost several family members early in life, as well as some friends in the last few years, I have found myself contemplating what quality of life and work fulfillment means to many people, as well as for myself. This is why I became a Career Fulfillment Coach.

According to the current edition of The Conference Board Job Satisfaction survey, and for the eighth straight year, less than half of US workers are satisfied with their jobs. In 2013, the percentage of workers satisfied with their jobs was 47.7 percent, well below the historical level of 61.1 percent in 1987.

The survey asks workers how they feel about various parts of their experience, including job security, wages, promotion policy, vacation policy, sick leave, health plans and retirement plans. On all of those measures, workers were happier in 1987 than they are now.

What worries workers most: layoffs. Even though hiring has picked up, only 46.6% of employees say they feel satisfied with their job security, compared to 48.5% before the recession. That’s way down from the 59.4% who said they felt they had job security in 1987.

  1. Mindset
  2. Action
  3. Support

Mindset is believing that you can indeed change your work life, and that you are worth it. It is believing that you deserve to live a life that is truly satisfying, and that it is possible for you to engage in work that is both meaningful and empowering for yourself and for others.

Mindset is believing in possibility, not improbability. You can have a negative mindset or a positive mindset.  You can be living out a prosperity mindset or a scarcity mindset and not be aware of it.

Actions will lead you toward your goals or away from them. Due to mindset, oftentimes people will procrastinate or self-sabotage an inevitable success, then experience a less than desirable result, and feel that they are living out a self-fulfilling prophecy of dissatisfaction and more unsuccessful attempts at change.

I’m here to tell you that failure + positive action + not quitting = success. Are you reading this with the aid of an electric light in the room?
